In some case you can receve this error “Unable to setup Default Printer, error message: 0X00000709” on windows 7 when you try to set a printer as a default printer.

One of the reason, you can have this error, is a permission problem on a registry key.

This is the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Open Regedit and navigate to the key.
Once you are on the key, on the left panel of the regedit, right click on the key “Windows”, then click on Permission.
If the problem is here you should find the permission in Read Only.
Now you can set the permission correct for the key, usually is full controll for your account.
Once done, close the regedit and you should be able to set the default printer.
